One of the many consequences of living in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world, is the need to be sensitive to the need for change, develop the new plans and implement them quickly. John Kotter, in Leading Change, proposed a 7-step formula to implement change. The formula requires leaders to:
- Create urgency for change
- Form a guiding coalition of influential leaders to take charge
- Craft a vision to inspire people
- Communicate the vision
- Empower others to act on it
- Secure short-term wins, because full change takes time and setbacks are common
- Embed the change in the organization’s systems and processes.
